Things to Know Before Purchasing Lovebird Cages
Lovebirds are beautiful birds with colorful brilliance. These small birds hardly grow beyond six and a half inches and weigh about fifty-sixty grams. Hence lovebirds can easily fit in small cages. These birds have a long lifespan of about 15 years. So you need to think over if you really want to invest for such a long period of time.
Remember the following points if you are new to the world of lovebirds -

Lovebirds always need a companion. It will be nice if you can spend some time with your pets else they may constantly squawk, preen excessively or show signs of aggression. It’s best to place the cage in an active part of the home where it can get maximum attention.

You ought to buy young lovebirds which are six to ten weeks old so that they can be hand fed unlike the really tiny ones that need to be fed by the parents.

Lovebirds do not demand big space but the cage should be spacious with small boxes so that the birds can rest in it. The bars of the cage should be horizontal. There should be a few perches at different levels for the birds. Most of these love birds like to take a bath so the bottom of the cage should have a container with water for them to splash around.

The cages should be cleaned at regular intervals so that the birds stay healthy. The birds are sensitive to smoke, cigarette smoke, toxic fumes and air pollution. They should be kept at safe places away from harmful and toxic environment.

Other than the parrot seed mix, the birds should also be feed plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. This helps them stay healthy and they feel as if they are feeding in the wild.

The birds should also be provided with toys so that they stay mentally and physically active. This is essential for their health and mental well being.
You should opt for a cage that is suitable for your birds, most importantly giving it ample space to fly, rest, perch and play.
